Connecting the Shift-Light GP
To configure the Shift-Light GP (SL), a connection has to be established
between the SL and the Shift-Light Configurator (SLC) software. The SL has two operation modes:
- Normal mode (normal Shift-Light operation);
- Configuration mode.
When switching on power to the SL, the SL enters the normal mode. To enter
the configuration mode, two steps need to be taken:
First step: connect the SL to the computer.
The configuration cable needs to be connected to the RJ12 connector at the
rear site of the SL. At the other site of the cable, the serial dongle needs to be connected.
The serial dongle needs to be connected to your PC of notebook serial port. If the computer has
not a serial port, a Serial-to-USB adapter has to be used.
Second step: Starting the SLC software and establish
the connection.
The SLC screen looks like this:

The Engine Section
- Select the number of Cylinders of your vehicle;
- Select 2 or 4 stroke;
- Select the ignition correction factor.
If you do not know this factor for your engine, start with 1 (no correction). If your engine is
equipped with more than 1 ignition coil, the ignition pulses per coil probably will be less
(factor 2,4,8..) than when the engine was equipped with 1 ignition coil. To correct for this
distribution of pulses, a correction factor could be mandatory. For example: 4 cylinder motorcycles
often need a factor 2; some two cylinder motorcycles with 1 ignition coil need factor 0.5; cars
with one coil and a disturber cap usually need factor 1.
This correction factor is used for internal calculations of (division) factors. These factors
are used for displaying the upper and lower limits RPM values and activation of the SL LEDs at
the correct RPM values.
The Computer Connection section
Select the communication port to which the serial dongle is connected. The
COM-port drop down box contains al selectable communication ports. If a communication port is used
for another purpose (the port is locked), e.g. a mouse or modem, the communication port does not
appear in the list. Also, all communication ports need to be available at program start. When you
connect a USB-to-Serial dongle, a communication port is added to the system. After restarting the
SLC, this new comport appears in the list.
Click the [Connect] button. Now the SLC initiates commands to establish a
connection to de SL and activate the SL-configuration mode. Right beneath the [Connect] button,
the link status is displayed. After a successful establishing of a connection 'Connected to SL'
is displayed and the green center LED of the SL is active.
If you for some reason lose connection to the SL during configuration session,
click [Connect] to re-establish the connection.
If you are finished configuring the SL, click the [Disconnect] button. The
link to the SL will be disconnected, the SL returns to its normal operation mode and the green
LED is not longer active.
The Settings section
Read SL button
After clicking the [Read SL] button, the current settings of the SL are downloaded and displayed.
Update SL button
After clicking the [Update SL] button, the settings on the screen displayed above the button are
uploaded to the SL. You are informed if the write operation was successful or not.
Red-LEDs subsection
By defining the upper limit, you control the optimal shift point. This optimal point depends
of the torque curve of your engine, shift mechanism, human factors etc.
Depending on your personal preferences, SL mounting position, whether
conditions and day or night time, the brightness of the 6 red LED's can be set. For maximal
light intensity, select 100%.
Green-LED subsection
By defining the lower limit, you can set a pre shift warning.
Depending on your personal preferences, SL mounting position, whether
conditions and day or night time, the brightness of the green LED can be set. For maximal
light intensity, select 100%.
Language Selection
SLC supports three languages:
- Englisch
- Dutch (Nederlands)
- German (Deutsch)
| To select a language, click in the system menu (click SLC icon in upper left corner)'Select Language.' |
|
The following dialog screen is displayed:
You can now select the language of your preference. After clicking 'OK', the SLC screen will be
immediately updated in the newly selected language.
The new setting will be remembered when starting the SLC the next time.
